// METHODOLOGY
Calendar-year share-price returns for the 42 listings in the VGR 40, from each company's first trading session: 1,041 company-years from 1980 to 2026. Each year's return is the close on the year's last trading session over the close on the previous year's last session; a company's first year is measured from its first close. Closes are adjusted for splits and capital events and exclude dividends. The series is updated each year on 2 January.
